The City of Bécancour is located in the St. Lawrence plain, in the Centre-du-Québec region, at the crossroads of major communications routes. The first amalgamated city in Quebec was officially created on October 17, 1965.

By regrouping eleven municipal corporations spread over a territory of 434 km2, the city of Bécancour became the largest city in Quebec in terms of surface area.
